Good book at an excellent price and fast delivery, but a newer edition is out.

It's exactly what I expected; I have earlier editions that I use frequently. It was at a good price and was delivered quickly. Supposedly, there was some use and/or damage, but it looks in brand-new condition to me. My only reason for giving it four stars rather than five is that an even newer version came out earlier this year, and there was no mention that this was no longer the latest edition.

Good Constitutional Law Casebook

This is a textbook, pue and simple. If you're buying it for class, you don't have much choice, buy it. But if you're buying it for pleasure, you might want to skip this one, it really is a textbook designed for class discussion. I will say this, don't try to save money by buying the edition behind, you will need the most recent one. And when a 3d one comes out, buy that one instead of this one. All in all, I enjoyed the book. I thought it presented topics in a very understandable, clear way.

I really like this text. I got it used so I haven't done any registration with it, but it's good as just a textbook. It has little notes about definitions and historical settings within the cases which really saves time. It has the standard cases in it and the explanations accompanying them are helpful but not too long or overly complex (unlike some law books where there are 50 notes after each case and every other note introduces another case, you know). There are some decent deals on it from around the internet too, so you won't have to pay the list price.

Forensic Chiropractor review

Recently my colleague, Dr. Anthony Sirucek, made me aware of a new publication by the American Medical Association entitled, “Guides to the Evaluation of Disease and Injury Causation”. This is a just released (copyright 2014) 2nd edition of the book first published in 1985. The manuscript’s opening line sets the stage for the purpose of the book. “Determining causation is a critical issue in occupational health, yet its definition remains elusive. Why? The causation concept may have a different meaning to various parties”. In the Introduction section it goes on to say, “In occupational health, causation has become key, since determination of causation is the gatekeeper to treatment and to determination of who is financially responsible”.
Although the volume is focused primarily on occupational exposure and injury, the same conclusions can be reached when substituting “personal injury” with “occupational injury”. The “Guides” introduction states, “It is incumbent on clinicians to give an opinion based on a careful review of three critical pieces of information:
1. Individual clinical findings
2. Individual workplace exposures
3. The literature linking (or not linking) the exposure of concern and the conditions in question”.

In the first three chapters, definitions of cost, fraud, risk, aggravation, exacerbation, recurrence, impairment evaluation, and apportionment are discussed. Concepts such as cause in fact, proximate cause, epistemology, specificity, sensitivity, positive predictive value and other research and statistical terms are quickly but efficiently reviewed with illustrative examples. These are all important in reaching conclusions needed to establish causation. A chart is included listing the Federal and individual States “causation threshold” such as reasonable medical judgment, within a reasonable degree of medical probability, preponderance of the evidence and more probable than not. Each state is listed and relevant court cases that resulted in the state standards are listed and discussed.
A recurrent theme throughout the beginning of the book is the topic of “assuring fairness when scientific opinions are involved”. It asks the question for all who are involved in medical legal matters to consider; what is occurring when the analysis of the facts results in differing opinions between the experts? At this point we have to presume bias exists in the expert conclusions. This topic precludes an insightful review of the Frye rule and Daubert rule regarding admissibility of evidence. This brief historical review of these rulings is worth the price of admission for the book all by itself.
Chapter 4 is dedicated to Methodology discussing topics of study design, outcomes from literature search, strength of evidence definitions and how to score epidemiologic studies on the strength of evidence. This presents a helpful tool in reviewing studies offered as evidence.
Chapter 5 is dedicated to Apportionment. It is defined in the 4th edition of the Guides to Evaluation of Permanent Impairment as “an estimate of the degree to which each of various occupational or non occupational factors may have caused or contributed to a particular impairment”. The 6th edition “Guides” more comprehensive definition of apportionment is offered as “the extent to which each of 2 or more probable causes are found responsible for an effect (injury, disease, impairment, etc.). Only probable causes (at least more probable than not) are included.” Apportionment of treatment, disability, impairment and co-founders in apportionment are discussed.
An example of how apportionment plays a role in injury cases is illuminated on page 412 as, “Apportionment is also a frequent issue in personal injury. For example, while driving home from the chiropractor’s office after receiving adjustments for neck and upper back pain, a person is rear-ended. Due to increased discomfort in the same areas, the driver reportedly now cannot work and needs more frequent treatments”.
Chapter 6 is focused on the “Causality Examination”. The goal of this exam is described as:
1. To determine and confirm that the original diagnosis was correct and due to the claimed injury, event or exposure.
2. Verify that current symptoms, physical examination findings, and test results are consistent with the diagnosis or a complication of previous treatment.
3. Determine and consider that an individual’s current complaints and findings may have been influenced by illness behavior.

Significant space is given to the complete examination topics of past history, the examinee interview, symptom diagram, behavioral signs, pseudo neurological signs, orthopedic and neurological tests, and patient observations. All of these are evaluated for consistency or inconsistency regarding the condition.

The work goes on to discuss Report Writing in Chapter 7. The three basic elements in an injury claim that must be proven are liability, damages and causation. Causation is the element that links the liability and the damages. Outlines of report formats are offered for review.
A large portion of this publication, 407 pages of the total 792, is dedicated to elaborating epidemiological risk factors for various body regions and conditions in separate chapters 8 through 21 including the spine, upper limb, lower limb, musculoskeletal disorders, acute and chronic pain, cardiovascular problems, pulmonary problems, neurological disorders, rheumatologic disorders, mental illness, genitourinary system, gastrointestinal system, EENT, and special topics of occupational exposure and chemical exposure.
The 22nd chapter entitled “Putting It All Together” is useful at this point in the book. The chapter opens with, “After reading this book, how does a health care provider put the whole process together and develop an answer to the question of causation? Educators suggest that examples provide one of the best ways to learn new skill. To that end, the following examples are presented.” These examples are insightful and helpful.
The rest of the publication discusses causation for the various perspectives of the Attorney, the Judge, the Employer, the Insurer, the Workers' Compensation Commission and the Occupational Physician. This 360 degree review is enlightening and highlights areas of bias.
Of particular interest for the physician will be the chapter detailing “Causation: The Occupational Physician’s Perspective”. This chapter outlines the many hurdles and considerations a doctor must take when determining the etiology of an injury or symptoms that may be related to a person’s workplace, environment or tasks. While this is often an occupational or “company” physician, the authors note the importance that any first-line provider, be it a family doctor or emergency room physician, should be wary of haphazardly labeling a condition as work related. The book explains this is because it takes a very comprehensive analysis of components which cannot be adequately addressed in the typical clinical setting in order to determine the extent of causality in relation to the work place. There are several insightful case studies of individuals with seemingly work trauma related symptoms and injuries that, after proper forensic examination, are determined to have conditions separate and distinct from the common scapegoats such as workplace activities or degenerative changes. The chapter goes on to outline the nine categories in the widely utilized Bradford - Hill Criteria. While this remains the accepted structure for determining causation, the authors gives several insights as to why and how the physician should use, but not depend on, these criteria.
We found this publication to cover a vast array of topics studied and utilized by the forensic physician integrated into a single reference volume. It gives great guidance in helping the physician be the “interpreter of the evidence of his or her specialty to the trier of fact”. It should be on the bookshelf, or more importantly the desk top of every forensic examiner seeking the truth. As chiropractic physicians working in the medico legal arena, we highly recommend this instructional publication.

This book is the most up to date review of the research to establish causation in Occupational Health injuries and illnesses. Who doesn't need this book should be the real question. The material is organized and easy to follow. I use it to show my employees how I come by my decisions. A lot about our thoughts about causation has been proven wrong and we need to know what is or is not appropriate to support as work related causation. This book will help us all get it right.

Quattros won no fewer than 23 World rallies from 1981 to 1985, won the Makes Championship in 1982 and 1984, and drivers Hannu Mikkola (1983) and Stig Blomqvist (1984) also won the World Drivers' series in Quattros. The Quattro led the World and European rally scene in the first half of the 1980s.

The latest two softbacks from Veloce are part of a series by Robson that will cover 16 of the most important rally cars of the last half-century. Each runs to 120-odd pages and boasts straightforwardly written, authoritative text and a large number of colour and b&w pictures. Besides the chronological history there are interesting sidebar digressions - did you know Roger Clark's 'Cossack' Escort had eight different liveries in ten events?!

This is a very well written and illustrated book that traces the Audi Quattro – a rally giant – through all its stages of development and rallying history. It starts at the very beginning with the inspiration for the car –�deep thinking by one Dipl Engineer Jorg Benzinger – and the development that took it to a world beating rally car. Each and every section – of which there are many within this book's 120 plus pages –�brings to light both interesting facts and anecdotes. One sections covers personalities and star drivers but, sorry to say, nothing about co-drivers.
This book is a very detailed account of what happened and when and has numerous illustrations in both full colour and black and white and I would think is a must for anyone with the slightest interest in rallying and the development of rally cars. Some of the final pages cover the victories achieved by works and supported cars – of which there are many – in both World and European rallies. If you have anyone in the family interested in rallying I would suggest this book would make a most welcome present.�� While I appreciate that this book is about an Audi and we are a Volkswagen club the two marques are so intertwined that I could not let this 'history' book pass by without a review in Club News.

The Audi Quattro changed rallying by ‘nagging’ the authorities to change the rules so they could use the four-wheel drive car. Once the rules were changed Audi brought success and showed the dominance of four-wheel drive. The book delves into the first ideas for the Audi right through to its successes at World Rally. The design of the car is well detailed, with insights into the engine and engineering of the car. As well as the star drivers over the years and the second half of the book details its competition years. Another good book from the ‘Rally Giants’ series. -

Another in the 'Rally Giants' volume, this covers the Group 4, Group B, Sport and Sport 1 evolutions of the ground-breaking 4x4 rallycar.� Graham Robson once again provides a cracking read of the period during the eighties when the Quattros with their distinctive five-cylinder 'blat' were all but invincible ... as ever in motorsport, there can be no such thing as 'invincible', particularly when the fundamental design is slightly flawed by having a heavy engine slung out in front of the front axle. The Lancia 037 was superior on dry tarmac. However, drivers such as Hannu Mikkola, Stig Blomqvist, Walter Rohrl and Mich�le Mouton all revelled in the turbo-charged car's fabulous traction - before joining Audi, Rohl once said that "even a monkey could win in a Quattro' ... then he too signed up to pilot the ground-breaking machine!

The very productive Robson continues his enjoyable 'Rally Giants' series with these latest offerings on two of the iconic rally cars from the last 30 years. Both titles are in the same, now familiar format: 128-page soft cover books with plenty of fine photos. But the cars themselves certainly are very different: it's easy to forget the impact the quattro had when it was introduced, while the Escort started off looking like a pretty standard family car! The two models didn't quite coincide on the world rally scene as the Escort's days at the top ran from 1975-'81, while the quattro was one of the top dogs from 1981-'86. But they won rallies and titles aplenty, and it's fascinating to follow their rallying exploits. Both books chart the development of the cars; their drivers, from Clark and Vatanen to Mikkola and Blomqvist, plus all the others behind their many successes; the competition they faced, and lovely little snippets like registration numbers and the occasional blind alley.

The industrious Graham Robson's book on the Peugeot 205 T16 was reviewed in Speedscene 146 and here are two more in the on-going series of Veloce's 'Rally Giants' series. Equally informative, as one would expect from the author with such a worldwide reputation as a motoring historian– fueled by his parallel career as a competitor, team manager, organizer, reporter and commentator (not to mention National Motor Club Quiz chairman, as this reviewer remembers, having been on the HSA's losing semi-final team in a Ford-sponsored series some years ago!) – these books cover the development and competition careers of two iconic rallying legends of the seventies and eighties. The Cosworth 16-valve BD engined Mk2 Escorts were arguably the most consistently versatile and successful rally car of all in the second half of the seventies, while the Audi Quattro was the first 300bhp plus World Rally car and the first to combine 4WD with a turbocharged engine, which brought new standards to the sport in the early years of the eighties. Their histories have been documented before, but Robson's compact and informative series or Veloce provides an ideal reference.

Graham Robson possesses a world-wide reputation as a motoring historian, and has been close to the sport of rallying for many years. Not only as a competitor, team manager, organizer, reporter, commentator and observer, but above all as an enthusiastic historian, in more than forty years he has never lost touch with the sport. His experience of rallying is worldwide. Not only has he competed in many British and European events, but reported on marathons in South America, and acted as a traveling controller in the legendary London-Mexico World Cup rally. As a recognized authority on many aspects of classic cars and motoring of that period, he is the most prolific of all authors, with more than 130 published books to his credit. Over the years he has owned, driven, described and competed in many of the cars featured in this landmark Rally Giants series, and his insight into their merits is unmatched.

Audi fan? This is a must.

As an S4 owner, my brother couldn't be a bigger fan of Audi and, since I've heard him say numerous times how he'd love to have his own rally car, this book was a sure-thing. He received other more expensive gifts for his birthday but this seemed to be his favorite. He spent most of his family birthday get-together reading us excepts (groan) and he's 35.
